You're Not Alone, Making Choices, Finding Hope

Tom RueSometimes, obstacles, experiences, or conflicts arise that can be difficult to manage alone. An outside perspective in a confidential setting with a non-judgmental ally can help ease pain, lighten load, or even lead to self-discovery and trying new behaviors and perspectives. Psychotherapy and counseling can help with recovery from trauma or abuse, grief, depression, anxiety, and preventing relapses with substance misuse. Letting go of toxic shame and secrecy provides relief and hope for resilience and recovery.

I see adults, couples (I prefer and recommend in-person visits for this), teenagers, and occasionally younger children. My goal is to work to create a safe and supportive space in a sometimes chaotic daily life, including for LGBTQIA+ people, allies, and others. People of all cultures, beliefs, life experience, and of any faith or of none, are welcome and valued, whether in-person or virtually. The beautiful Upper Delaware River Valley, where the historic and artsy hamlet of Narrowsburg is located, is an added reason to consider in-person visits. However, if coming here is not practical for you, we can meet on Zoom if you are located anywhere in NY, PA, SC, or FL.

Whether you are here for mental health support; hoping to make behavioral changes in yourself; or maybe recovering from a history of alcohol or substance misuse; having trouble managing excessive worrying; for depression or another mood disorder; a teenager stressing out at school or with parents; couples with struggling relationship issues; feeling lonely and unlovable; looking for spiritual meaning; or living with chronic pain, you are a whole person with a unique story and a life worthy of respect. Whatever has been holding you down, you are free to unpack and leave here. I might inquire if you have tried a particular solution or offer suggestions. Having a supportive listener who "shows up" for you, in and of itself can be invaluable. Understanding the emotional and spiritual journey that led you to present conditions and the role that you and other people and influences may have played in developing those conditions, as well as recognizing and exercising your own autonomous power and accepting your power's limits, is likely to help you to reinforce lasting resilience and find the changes in yourself that you are seeking.

In-person or virtual

The choice of in-person vs. virtual visits is based on client preferences and clinical needs. To use telehealth, you need a safe and private space with a strong Internet connection, and you need to be physically located in a state where I am licensed. Those states presently include: New York, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Florida. For your own safety, please do not connect to the platform while operating a motor vehicle.

Individual sessions are held in person in Room 206-B of the Narrowsburg Union, by appointment, during weekday business hours. Individual and group therapy are offered online to reduce barriers such as geographic distance or physical illness. Here is some helpful information about getting started with telehealth. To get here in-person from anywhere in Sullivan County, eligible clients may use Medicaid Transportation. (Medicare only covers medical transportation in emergencies.) For those who are driving, see the Google Maps linked from this page.

Scheduling, intake, insurance

To make an appointment, please complete this intake packet, then email or call. The wait is not long. Kindly start with the "Intake Face Sheet" and then complete the others highlighted in yellow before your first appointment.

Some insurance companies that I work with are managed through a billing company called Headway. They may ask you to complete some forms before informing me that they have verified your health insurance coverage. Check out my scheduling page, but please email or call directly to 845-513-5002 with any questions. The Headway page does not fully reflect my calendar.

Psychotherapy is covered by health insurance in most states. Some services offered may not be covered by insurance and must be privately paid. As applicable, I do accept Medicare, Medicaid, and most commercial insurance plans (see list on left column of this website). Those who have insurance but prefer not to use it may elect to sign an insurance opt-out form and self-pay.
