Choices Mental Health Counseling adds five new Pennsylvania insurance plans
NARROWSBURG, NY – In line with its ongoing efforts to better serve residents of Wayne and Pike counties, on November 22nd, Thomas Rue of Choices Mental Health Counseling PLLC in Narrowsburg said he is pleased to announce the practice’s acceptance into five additional regional health insurance networks in Pennsylvania. He affirmed that all previously available payment options for New Yorkers, in place since the practice began at Monticello in 2010, remain in place.
Many insurance plans are regulated at the state level, Rue said, with provider networks, pricing, and coverage terms tailored to comply with state-specific laws and regulations. Insurers often negotiate contracts within defined geographic areas, which can limit cross-border coverage, making it harder to find a provider in some rural areas.
In addition to Geisinger Health, which was the first Keystone State insurance plan announced by Choices earlier this fall, the practice now accepts the following Pennsylvania-specific health plans: Aetna, Capital Blue Cross Pennsylvania, Carelon Behavioral Health, Cigna, and Quest Behavioral Health. Credentialing efforts are underway to add additional Pennsylvania-specific plans, including locally controlled managed care Medicaid options as well as Medicare, with additional commercial plans expected to be added in coming months.
“Our mission is to empower individuals, couples, and families to achieve emotional wellness, resilience, and personal growth,” Rue said. “Through compassionate care, evidence-based practices, and a commitment to inclusivity, we provide accessible, high-quality mental health services to clients in New York and Pennsylvania. Our goal is to foster a supportive and collaborative environment where every client can navigate challenges, embrace their strengths, and create a path toward a healthier, more fulfilling life.”
Choices offers telehealth services for clients in both New York and Pennsylvania, making therapy accessible to individuals who may not be able to visit the Narrowsburg office in person. Telehealth is especially beneficial for clients with transportation barriers or those living in more remote areas. Those able to get to Narrowsburg have the option of attending in-person. Rue is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in New York and in South Carolina and a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the commonwealth.
Rue moved his practice from Monticello to Narrowsburg in August 2023 until entering private practice in August 2010. Previously, he worked as a psychotherapist and counselor for public and private agencies in New York State from 1987 until retiring from state and county service in 2013. Before 1987, Rue worked for Wayne County Children and Youth Services in Beach Lake, Pa.
The office is committed to accessibility, offering a welcoming and accommodating environment for individuals with disabilities, Rue said. Additionally, he noted, Choices is sensitive to financial concerns and works with an array of insurance plans to reduce out-of-pocket costs for clients.
Choices Mental Health Counseling PLLC specializes in psychotherapy for individuals aged 12 and older, couples, and adult groups, addressing a wide range of mental health needs, including people suffering with alcohol or substance use disorders. The practice is located at The Narrowsburg Union, Room 206-B, 7 Erie Avenue, Narrowsburg, NY, just a few blocks from the Upper Delaware River and conveniently located for visitors crossing the bridge from Darbytown, Pennsylvania. The office is located 15 miles from Honesdale; and 17 miles from Hawley, Wayne and Pike counties.
